Audi Works Team

Audi provided an update on their highly anticipated Formula 1 entry during a presentation at the Auto Shanghai exhibition. This announcement comes after their confirmation last year at the Belgian Grand Prix that they will be joining the F1 grid starting from the 2026 season. As part of their strategic plans, Audi will collaborate with legendary long-time F1 team Sauber to transform the existing Alfa Romeo team, currently powered by Ferrari, into Audi's official works team.

Launch Livery

In an effort to expand their presence in the Asian market, Audi took their project to China, where they showcased their launch livery show car and introduced the captivating slogan 'F1 Power made in Germany'. This move further solidifies their commitment to the venture and aims to generate excitement among motorsport enthusiasts in the region.

Starting Testing This Year

Audi also revealed that their first full hybrid drivetrain unit, comprising a combustion engine, electric motor, battery, and electronic control unit, is scheduled for rigorous testing on the bench before the end of this year. This crucial step will lay the foundation for the future development of Audi's F1 vehicle concept, marking a significant milestone in their preparation for the upcoming season.

Expanding The Team

With the formation of the Audi Formula Racing GmbH division, Audi now boasts a dedicated team of over 260 specialists. The core development team consists of experienced professionals from Audi Sport and Audi, bringing a diverse range of expertise in electric motorsport. To further strengthen their workforce, Audi has been actively recruiting external F1 specialists. By the end of the year, they anticipate completing the hiring process, thereby exceeding a staff count of 300 and ensuring a robust team ready for the challenges ahead.

Ready For 2026

To support their F1 project, Audi plans to expand their Competence Center Motorsport. This expansion includes the installation of additional test rigs in a new building encompassing approximately 3,000 square meters. The modular design of the facility allows for early utilization of the test rigs, even before the entire space is fully completed in early 2024. This investment highlights Audi's commitment to creating state-of-the-art infrastructure to enhance their F1 development capabilities.
