The Passage of Time

The Audi TT has always been one of our favorites. We’ve always found the tiny little coupe to be so unique, simple, and quirky in such a pleasing way. The original TT debuted in 1998 for the 1999 model year and is officially 20 years old now. Time moves fast.

A Bit of A Rough Start

The TT has always had a quirkiness about it. The round little bulbous body was so bubbly and non-offensive, it quickly earned itself a "cute car” title, an unfortunate label as it is truly a great sports car. However, plagued by failing timing belts, faulty electronics, and high-speed accidents, the TT started life a bit rough. But sales were strong, with the first generation showing steadily growing sales throughout its lifetime and growing today as a staple car in Audi's line-up.

20th Anniversary Edition

The plucky little TT scrambled onward, and now, 20 years later, we’re clearly not the only ones that has had a soft spot for this little two-seat sports car. Audi has a special edition slotted for the 2019 TT. The Audi TT 20th Anniversary Edition model is on sale now and hosts unique features that are inspired by the TTS Roadster concept that was premiered way back at the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show.

Unique Features

The 20th Anniversary Edition TT will be privy to a host of upgrades and unique features that set it far apart from a standard TT. The TTS Roadster concept study that the special edition TT draws inspiration from was a huge hit when it was debuted, and has some special elements that make for inspiration. It even had a functional side vent.

Exterior

The TT 20th Anniversary Edition is available in both coupe or roadster. The TT comes standard in Aviator grey pearl, as well as an exclusive color only on US-spec cars, Nimbus Gray Metallic, Audi’s smooth matte primer grey variant. “20 Years of TT” badges are added to the front fenders, and OLED taillights only available on the TT RS are standard, as is the high-gloss black trim. Unique 19 inch five spoke gunmetal wheels are wrapped in summer performance tires and a trumpet style exhaust rounds out the package.

Interior Upgrades

Inside is where the 20th Anniversary Edition really stands apart. S Sport seats are standard, as is the full array of Audi safety features and Bang & Olufsen® Sound System, just as in the highest trim level TT. Most apparent is the distinct baseball leather upholstery of the original concept. Mocassin Brown Fire Nappa leather with yellow contrast stitching wrap every touchable surface and fit so well with the Nimbus Grey, especially with the top down. Badging with “TT 20 Years” and the production number of each car are also seen.

Pricing

The 20th Anniversary Edition is currently available for order with an MSRP of $52,900 plus destination fee for the coupe. The roadster will go for a slightly higher $56,800 plus destination fee. Totally worth it to see the top of those baseball leather seats poking out with the top down.
