Hello everyone,

I am thinking about purchasing a C6 A6 3.2. I have some questions about the car...

Does it have a timing belt, and or a timing chain. I remember how some C5's have both.

What are some common issues with the car?

Is it worth getting the warranty?

Is it more reliable than the C5's?

The car is a chain. Common issues: carbon build-up (for FSI models), chain tensioners, valve seals...

Worth getting a warranty....it depends; your mechanical aptitude, your level of risk tolerance, the service history of the vehicle, etc...

Having owned a C5 (2.8) for over 10 year and a C6 (4.2) for awhile now, I love my C6 and would say that both a pretty good cars, but I've had less issues with the C6

I bought '06 A6 Avant 3.2 4 months ago w/182K, now at '193K. Bought as replacement for wife's '99 A6 Avant 2.8 w/80K. Always had issues w/'99 leaking oil, ctrl arm wear, plastic bits breaking and various electrical glitches. Find the C6 to be quieter, handle better, better brakes, better fuel mileage all in all I much prefer it over C5. My wifes's not crazy about the higher technology in the C6 so I'm driving it as my DD and rolling up the miles! She's using my '95.5 S6 Avant w/132K, this keeps miles down on S6 which is worth much more than hi-mileage C6
