the ones that come to mind are: Mann, Hengst, Wix
BTW, I think my fuel filter was Mahle and on my C5 I def used Mahle filters...so should be good.

Except for fuel filters in rare cases (1.8t's), i have never liked Bosch filters., especaily oil. Filters is not what Bosch is about. Mann and Mahle use substantially heavier metal cans in canister filters.
Mahle stills seems to be all made in Euro, except fuel. Several C6 Mann and Mahle fuel filters look identical and are made in China. Mann C5 fuel are still Germany.
Mann and Bosch formed a partnership a year ago and bought out US Purolator - which actually made good filters. So, now you have Mann and Bosch filters for Chevy Suburbans!!! Just rebranded Purolator filters. I have seen some Mann oil filters for Audi now say made in Mexico (was a big Purolator plant there). The big thing now for filter companies is to have full coverage for every car. TONS of rebranding going on.
With Mann and Mahle easy to get, i would never pay the premium for VAG.

the last Mann (HU722z) that I bought clearly says Hecho en Allemagnie
(it also says in english: Made in Germany)
Hoping mine is the norm, not the exception.
