Caved in pan.

And the result is the filter touching the bottom of the pan.

A little update with this one.
Still haven't figured out what caused the laggy engaging in the first place. Replacing filter and fluid didn't seem to fix it.
The problem started to get worse, and the whizzing sound during gear change got more common and clear. The problems started feeling like a problem in the valve body, but that wouldn't have explained the whizzing sound. As it got clearer, I figured it would be the pump cavitating, and before pulling the valve body out, I'd check the filter pickup tube clearance and cut it, even though the oil pan was good as new.
I start by draining the oil just to see the oil look like this:
Well, ****, that's not good. The oil hasn't been in more than a few months, and looks already like that. Must be something really wrong inside, and this'll be an expensive one.
After draining the oil and dropping the pan an explanation for the problems getting worse and cavitating is obvious. But a cracked filter, how on earth? I didn't thighten the screw that much to break the filter, and that it also has popped out of the casing. The filter part was still attached to the top part, so all oil has flowed through that at least. I also measured the clearance between the tube and pan, which was 20mm, should be enough for oll to flow freely.
Anyway, ordered new filter and gasket, and proceeding with putting it back together with new parts. Hope it hasn't caused damage inside yet. Luckily the car isn't driven a lot so my hopes are up.
