As later posters are making clear, I think this is a North America (more limited options) vs. elsewhere distinction. We couldn't get a SWB W12 here either, which you could in Europe.

Many things could be Audi Exclusive ordered on any of them, but skimming used Audi ads, those cars are somewhere between 1:100 and 1:1000 so really rare. Even most of those seem to be non-std. paint or upholstery choices; in theory it can be anything in the build catalog that doesn't involve some safety or regulatory spec.

It really comes down to whether you want a SWB or LWB. For me the choice was easy since I couldn't deal with the SWB.

I found out that the S8 has different gearing. The RPMs at 80mph is significantly higher on the S8 than the V8 or the W12. To me that clinches it for the W12. The lack of a LWB version for the S8 also kills the S8.
