Running hot
#31
drove approx. 378mi with little to no problems- mid 80'sF went half a tic over the 12 o'clock mark on temp gauge - funny -at high speed the engine temp went over 250F by one or 2 tics while coolant temp was still at twelve - now the bad (or worse?) news - mid 90'sF stuck in traffic - the car did get hot - heat soak when car was shut off put coolant temp over twelve mark by one tic - when I got going again stuck in traffic with a/c on - car got hot again to the point it wanted to shut down a/c - so I cut a/c off to let everything cool down - once cooled down - it did not run hot again when I turned the a/c back on - think I might need to have fan run after car is off for heat soak - also - my after run pump is probably not working - I've only seen the aux passenger side fan run once after car was off. Side note: I sometimes see no data coming from coolant temp when looking at it through vagcom - not sure if it is vagcom or the sensor actually not sending data- wonder how the fan is responding at those times if there is no data from the sensor...

everyone who has switched to electric fan doesn't seem to see above 90F on a regular basis - wonder if I made a mistake trying this conversion. May need to go back to belt driven fan.

another x-factor to take into account - although I'm sure the high wattage oem electric fans are more than what I replaced them with - it may be possible that at idle the voltage drop from the alternator causes the fans to run slower causing the run hot condition. However, there would be no impact of any voltage drop from the oem fans if a belt driven fan is in place... hmmmm....
