SQ5 - Harsh shifts with clunk in Sport
Spent some more time in our new SQ5 today and in Sport Mode under light/moderate acceleration it has a extremely harsh shift.
Abnormally harsh where the car rocks back and forth when it shifts. Almost like it shifting and not delivering power fast enough after the shift. WOT is fine but partial throttle the entire car shudders through shifts.
300 miles on it, anyone else had anything similar?
This is a US 3.0t gas engine.

Don't know how fast you were driving, but my SQ5 does not like to be driven at low speeds in"S" The higher shift points and snappier shifts are for more spirited driving.

Yeah, I'm certainly no expert... but I think you'll find that 60 mph under normal acceleration is gonna be a little jumpy in sport mode. S is really for wringing each gear out almost to redline and keeping those revs up in the sweet spot of the powerband......where you may not want to go until she's broken in.

Thanks.
Going to goto the dealer on Monday. The part throttle tuning for shift management feels way off.
This is not a more aggressive shift. The transmission shifts then its a good .25 seconds before power is reapplied at part throttle and it lurches.
All Sport mode does is makes the pedal more responsive, holds a particular gear longer than in drive, and it may shift more aggressively/less torque management.
I drive it in sport mode because I hate the lazy gas pedal. My S4 I leave in Sport all the time unless cruising on the freeway. I also prefer it to stay a gear up unless cruising on the freeway which is the biggest thing to me is it doesn't instantly shift into higher gears for fuel economy.
Driven lots of cars with this same transmission and none of them exhibit this behavior. Almost all 8 speeds are the ZF unit. My wife old GC did not do this in Sport, the BMW's with either the 2.0 or 3.0 do not do it. The TDI doesn't.

You can do it either way. I leave it in Dynamic all the time but I believe even in Dynamic when you start the car it is not in Sport, you have to manually do it.
That is how it is in my S4 and I believe the SQ5 but I'll have to check next time.
