All season tires for 2017 Q7 Prestige with 21" wheels?
I put down a deposit on a 2017 Q7 Prestige. It will arrive in about 5 weeks. I am a bit concerned that it comes with 21" wheels and 285/40 SUMMER tires. I live in Florida, but, who knows, might need to go north when it is cold. I can't find anybody who makes an All Season in that size. What do people do? I see that, for example a 265/45, will keep the tire diameter the same and it comes in an All Sealon, but can you run a 265 on a rim that is spec.ed for 285? Is there some margin? What do people do?

You will have to go to a 295/40/21 size tire, which is perfectly fine since the difference in rolling diameter is so minimal and insignificant that it only results in less than 1mph speedometer error. The good news is Continental DWS is available from tirerack in that size and it's actually one of the better all-season tires you can get, though pricy at ~$1300/set in this size.
A few people here have them on the 21" stock wheels and have reported no issues. One has even managed to include these tires installed by the dealer as part of the deal. Details in this thread...

Yep, that's my car I can say after using them for 4,000 miles I have zero issues with them. They drive nice and work well in both snow and heavy rain. My summer tires are in the garage...not sure if I'll ever put them on. Maybe when I sell the car in a few years.

Nope. I have had no issues at all with that. I had the Audi dealer where I purchased the car at swap the tires for me and just a few weeks ago I got a screw in one of them. I had another Audi dealer replace it with no issues (tire warranty already paying off!). Other than Tire Rack is the only place in the country to buy them

295 but with the same 40 profile will gain you less than 1 cm in diameter.
295 - 285 you gain only 1 cm width on the tire. I double you'd be able to see or feel the difference. should fit the 9.5 wheel just fine.
speedometer will be off by 1%. when it's reading 60mph, you're going 59.4. not a big deal. Probably a cheaper option for the tires going with all season. I have the same tire running on 19" on my MB E400. No issues.
Profile 40 should still be comfortable enough. (the prestige I test drove in Jan winter has 21" summer tires - which is ridiculous as it's actually easy to damage hard rubber during cold temp). When you get to 35 and 30's is when the ride gets a little harsh. And also dependent on 35 or 30 percent of what tire width. There are days when I hit a pot hole, all you can hear is like my car is about to explode followed by me cursing I am going to sue our state hwy department.
but when I have my winters 17" with 45 profile (the E400). much better over potholes. and they re not RFT.
I ordered mine with 20's - since it's for the wife. Will buy 19" wheels and winter tires later this year. I notices whether is 20 or 21, if you bump to 295 you get more options with tire rack.
Saw many folks talk about RFT (20") vs non (21"). Honestly, given the profile of the 20" (@45) and 21" (@40) - blowouts are unlikely if you're not driving over huge pot holes all the time. As long as you still have tire pressure monitor installed, you should be able to catch slow leaks... at which point you need to either repair or replace. You should be able to put in enough air to get you where you need to go to have the tire replaced/repaired.
