Default Help with bleeding!

I just replaced the abs pump/module whole assembly on my 2001.5 s4 6mt. I am trying to find out the exact bleeding procedure to bleed the system and what NOT to do. I know so far you have to start at the passenger rear then driver rear then passenger fron then driver front but do I cycle my abs before i bleed or do I bleed first and cycle the abs last? Does the car need to be running? Does the whole car need to be in the air? Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Default Also

When changing out the abs module does it need to be re-coded before you cycle it? If so are the codes all the same for bosch 5.0's or is it vehicle specific?

Default Re: brake bleeding

Here's a link with some info about bleeding brakes including the ABS unit: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4/msgs/29525.phtml. Since the ABS unit is completely dry, it seems reasonable to maybe first bleed it to the left front first to get it full of fluid, and then to go thru the whole normal procedure (bleeding all four corners and then the ABS to the left front). If you're using a manual method (instead of a power bleeder), then the articles mention to make sure to not push the brake pedal all the way to the floor or you could damage some of the seals. You can always try searches on AudiWorld, QuattroWorld, and Audizine as there may be more info. Personally, I've used a power bleeder, but haven't tried bleeding the ABS unit, but will be giving that a try soon. - Jim
