Default Tire tread is worn thin - damage to AWD?

just bought a 2007 A4 Quattro for a good price, but the tire tread is pretty low. I plan to get new tires soon, but my q. is in the meantime could this damage the AWD system if the tread on the tires is different from one another?

Audi recommends that the tires be withing 4/32nds of an inch of each other to avoid problems with wear on the AWD system.
