1984 Audi Sport Quattro Mattel Brick Shop Debuts for Collectors
The new 1984 Audi Sport Quattro Mattel Brick Shop model has debuted as a customizable and highly detailed collectible.
As most automotive enthusiasts are already well aware, the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro is an iconic performance machine, one that was built for a very specific purpose – to allow Audi to compete in the legendary Group B rally racing series. The homologated model is quite special as a result, riding on a shortened wheelbase to improve handling, and powered by a potent turbocharged inline five-cylinder engine churning out 306 horsepower. Unfortunately, the Audi Sport Quattro is quite rare as well, as just 214 street-going units were built in total.
These days, the Audi Sport Quattro is quite valuable as a result of its rarity and prominence, with nice examples selling for well into the six-figure range. For those who don’t have that kind of cash, we do have a nifty alternative, at least – the new Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels version of the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro, which was just added to its catalog. The new model isn’t available to purchase yet – Mattel only says that it’s “coming soon” – but it’s certainly worth keeping tabs on for a number of good reasons.
The Mattel Brick Shop collection is one that’s uniquely geared toward enthusiasts, as they feature loads of detail, metal parts, and a bevy of customization options. In this case, the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro example consists of 864 pieces in total, plus a decal sheet, two sets of wheel covers, extra parts, and a matching 1:64 scale car. The main attraction here is the larger 1:16 scale model fans can piece together themselves, which is highly detailed and authentic in every way.
There are many details here to soak in – this model features an opening trunk, functional steering, and a custom windshield and hood, a signature plate, and even extra parts, enabling owners to customize it if they please. Those parts are even compatible with other brands, so owners can swap other things out – and that includes other Mattel Brick Shop models as well.
On top of that, Mattel Brick Shop models feature bricks that are made from smooth resin, so they’re easier to click together – and they come with step-by-step instructions to make that process frustration-free. In this case, the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro Brick Shop model is a Target exclusive, so those interested in purchasing one will want to keep an eye out at their local store.
