With the car being around so long we have gotten used to its shape by now. But when it was introduced back in 1998 the automotive world was stunned. This could not really be a production car, could it? Surely this is a concept, and the final design will be drastically different. Wrong. The Audi TT that went to production looked almost identical to the concept car from a few years before. It was, and still is, a rolling fashion statement. When you were in school if your parents ever found out that you got a 46 out of 100 on a test then chances are you would be grounded. Well, we don’t know what sort of punishment the Q5 is going to get but Consumer Reports just gave it a score of 46/100 in the compact luxury SUV segment. That placed it nearly dead last. It was purchased new on June 29, 1973, and that buyer has enjoyed it for 50 years until deciding to part with it in this auction. The car looks immaculate for its age. The Audi RS 3 is a terrific machine. And this video is just the latest proof. This time the mighty RS 3 is up against a fire breathing Lamborghini Huracan STO. The Lambo is not just a little bit more expensive than the Audi. It is not double the price. It is not triple the price. That Huracan STO is more than five times more expensive than the RS 3. It is a two-seat full bore supercar. Against a tiny Audi performance sedan? Well, look away Lambo fans. Yes, at the end of the day the expensive Italian put down a quicker lap time. But it was less than 1 second faster than the Audi. And you can complain about different tires and drivers and other factors making a difference. But the RS 3 hung right in there, and it punches far above its weight class.
Audi Cubes Offer Glimpse into Future of EV Charging
EV cars are the future for Audi and most other automakers. But equally as important as the cars themselves is the charging network. A lot of people have legitimate concerns over how we can ramp up the EV charging infrastructure fast enough to keep up with the number of cars being built. Audi may have an answer. Audi has revealed EV charging cubes composed of dismantled test vehicle batteries at its Neckarsulm plant in Germany. This type of energy storage/charging system works well in situations where you have several hours to charge your car. Such as when you are at work. This helps solve the problem of what to do with older EV batteries. And the cubes can be quickly transported and eliminates an expensive and time-consuming construction process.
