Valet Takes Customer’s Audi RS7 to Meet, Where It’s Promptly Stolen and Trashed
An owner’s Audi RS7 was essentially stolen twice in one night, but the second group left the car basically totaled after their joyride.
Over the years, we’ve all heard horror stories involving rogue valets who like to take their customers’ cars for joyrides, which sometimes end in horrific fashion. There have been many times throughout history when valets crash those cars during joyrides, which typically always make the news and presents us with a cautionary tale. After all, this is precisely why so many modern performance vehicles have a “valet mode,” which cuts down on its power big time and is intended to prevent this kind of thing from happening. However, what happened to one person’s Audi RS7 in Baltimore, Maryland, recently is a little worse than the average valet joyride, a story we can relive thanks to WBFF Fox 45 News.
The owner of this Audi RS7 – Brian Eller – had just purchased their new ride and took it on a date, leaving the performance machine with a valet when he checked in at the Pendry Hotel in Fells Point. It was certainly a normal type of transaction that happens many times on a daily basis across the country, but this time around, the story has a pretty terrible ending. Rather than waking up and having his car pulled around, the RS7 owner was awakened by the hotel’s hotel manager, who was there to give him some bad news.
“He said we have some bad news for you. Last night our valet employee stole your car,” Eller said. “I literally was like, you have to be kidding me. This has to be a dream. This has to be a joke.” Unfortunately, that was not the case. Eller later discovered that the valet didn’t just take his Audi RS7 out for a spin, but rather, drove it to a local car meet at a convenience store, where he clearly intended to show it off. Instead, a trio of thieves jumped in the car and took off with it.
Making matters worse, police managed to find the car parked outside of an apartment building just a few hours later, but the thieves had completely trashed it by that point. “They destroyed the whole body,” Eller said. “The doors don’t even open. There’s a full can of gas spilled in the car.”
The valet – as one might imagine – is now facing criminal charges, but it’s unclear what Eller’s recourse is here. The news mentions that he’s out “thousands of dollars,” and Eller stated that the hotel offered him a free night’s stay for his troubles, but that doesn’t exactly solve the problem here. With any luck, Eller’s insurance will take care of it for him, but he rightfully notes that he won’t be so trusting of valet services in the future – and we certainly can’t blame him there.
