Default 2003 TT Roadster - Spluttering badly, very jumpy

Hi all,
new to the site and desperate for help! I bought a high mileage TT (153,000) roadster last month. Love the car but yesterday it went badly wrong.
When I turn on the ignition the car seems ok but when I put it into first and try to pull away there is very little power and it “splutters or misfires” and it is really jumpy throwing you back and forward in your seat.

I read somewhere that there is a common fault with coil packs so I replaced all 4 of those yesterday but the problem persists...There is is a smell which as a novice I think (may be wrong) smells like oil but no leaks visible anywhere!

I seem to to have no luck with cars and frankly I’m desperate!

ANY IDEAS?
