Question about using a 03-04 Passat 1.8T short block with a 01 A4 1.8T Head
There is a short block 03-04 Passat 1.8T for sale for $200 w/ only 4k miles on it. If this would work what should I look for on it before I buy? My goal would be to build it up so I have a real sturdy motor for a BT in my A4.

What codes are on the block/head
I could look them up but too lazy. That's a super killer deal on that setup.
1. I'd look for overheating because it will soften the aluminium on the head and make reseating the valves more difficult and ultimately result in lower life
2. Piston ring scar on the walls of the block, you can always bore it out but only so much so if there are any scars see how deep they are, anything deeper than 1mm is a no no
3. Cracks, obveously
4. run out and twisting, just a simple straight edge will work but make sure the deck is level and so is the head
5. Debris in the oil passages or any other lodged peice of schrapnel

They should all bolt together but the AEB head flow's nicer although doesn't have direct inj.
Direct injection is pretty cool if you wanna run lots of antilag on a track ect but the AEB just simply has larger port openings if you wanna really twist the block a bit
