12v better than 30v ?
Does the 12v V6 have any advantages over the 30v? in terms of driving feel or performance?
Is there a big "windup" before the torque rolls on and power hits ?
what's your personal experience ?
Thanks for any replies. I'm looking at Audi 80,90, or Cabriolet or B5 A4. The A4 is more modern, but i love older, classic german sedans.

the 12v has less problems and is very torque motor. i prefer them over the 30v cause they are simpler to work on, dont leak oil as much are allot more reliable, but the 30v makes more power

The 12V has a pretty steep torque curve, which flatens off as the manifold length switch occurs. Therefore, it has to spin fairly fast to pull well. Its just weak at the lower speeds, especially when my five-speed automatic shifts into fifth-lockup at 40 mph and 1200 RPMs. My daughter has a 3.0 30V; it has way more torque at the low end, and potentially way more expense to fix if those complicated heads have problems. At the end of the day, my 12V has more than enough power to get me into trouble if I let it.

There's a lot to be said for simplicity in design.
I imagine not only the intake manifold design, but the amount of valves (5) allows the 30v engine to breath quite well and develop a lot of torque, quickly.
You could say 2 valves per cylinder is kind of old school. I used to drive SOHC 2 valve/cylinder Inline-6 engines ( 1980 Mercedes 280se & 1987 BMW 325is). They both had soft low ends and required patience when asking for peak power/torque. There was almost a charm in the way those engines worked.
At the end of the day, that's exactly what I need: enough power to get me into trouble.

this is just some that can be purchased or made
throttle body from VAP
velocity stack air box
deshroud MAF and bore out
CC the injectors
Intake manifold work shop
Chip from 034 motorsport
AAN light wight flywheel with clutch
AFC exhaust manifolds
Injection ports on head opened up
intake hose can be replaced to get batter flow and the plastic "thing" on TB can be replaced with 2 tight 90 degree bent silicone hoses.
shorten up and relocate your vacuum cilinoids (cant spell) to get quicker response from them
EGR mod doesnt give your horse power, but you stop dumping whole bunch of exhaust back in to your intake...
high flow cats (leave the rest of exhaust alone) it flows pretty good for what it is)
im running out of ideas at the moment, but ive done some of these things to my, and it turned the car in to something thats fun to drive ;-)
p.s. if you really want to go insane, stand alone fuel management, as our ECM's suck
