Coolant leak

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/65967/rear.jpg"></center><p>I have a coolant leak that I am having trouble locating. I lose ~6-8 oz. every few months, but recently I have been losing that amount in 3-4 weeks. I removed the belly pan and there is definitely coolant on it, but I can't tell where it is coming from.

It is coming from the drivers side and I believe it is coming from the back. I don't think the reservoir is leaking, but I could be wrong. Are there any common leaks from the rear of the engine.

while it is warm and idleing start checking from the resorvior and work your way from there. i think the most common problem are the resorviors getting extremley fine cracks where fluid will bubble out. you can't even see these splits except when it is warmed up, but eventually they start dripping onto the valve cover.

reservoir removes real easy...look on the back side of it...Ive seen 4 crack in the exact same spot.

I removed it last night, but didn't see any cracks.

I ordered a new one today anyway.

coolant flanges

also check the metal coolant pipe that mounts to the heads and make sure they're ok. theyre located on the back of the engine like in the picture you posted earlier.

the metal coolant pipe on the back of the engine is "flanged" where they mate with the heads. make sure those o rings are not leaking coolant. I dont know of any other coolant passages that could cause a leak at the back of the engine like you described
