electric power loss
It's a '96 A4 quattro.
For several months the engine seemed a bit hesitant to start up. Once there must have been an electric power loss while the car was parked, because I found the radio in safe mode.
Two days ago, the engine would not turn over. The idiot lights did not come on when turning the ignition on. the coolant temp gauge's needle moved during two attempts to start the car all the way to the right. The radio displayed “safe.” When turning the key, there was no relay/solenoid clicking noise.
I turned the lights on, and the parking lights and taillights worked. With the light switch in “on” position, I could start the engine, but only once. After the next attempt there was zero sign of life.
Am I looking at a defective ignition switch? Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.
