Engine miss question,,,

Engine miss question,,,
Hi Guys, maybe you can help. When I am cruising down the road, cruise control on or off, all of a sudden my engine light comes on (steadily), and the power drops off a bit and the engine runs quite rougher. I shut off the key, then turn it back on and let it compression start and everything is fine ( for a little while or for the rest of the commute). It is completely random, although it's usually within the first 15 minutes of my drive. The dealer here is sh*tty, and $120 per hour, so I would appreciate any advice! Thanks - Brandon
