oil temp sender location for AFC 12v PLEASE!!
i have the bentley manual and all i could find was that the oil temp sender is located on the left side of the engine, on the oil pump. i don't know if i'm retarded or what but i can't find ANY mention of the oil pump ANYWHERE in the entire manual...i've checked under the car several times and i can't find it there either...so i have two questions:
1. does anyone happen to have a picture of where the oil pump/temp sender is located?
2. can i replace the sender without pulling the bumper out to the service position or anything like that?

In looking at my '96 A6 w/ the AFC engine, it appears to be behind the harmonic balancer on the...
driver's side. I could see a single wire w/ a connector attaching to a spade, which appears to be near the oil pump. If you have an A4, you would probably need to place the carrier in the service position since it appears that you need to remove the damper to get at the sensor.

Look in your Bentley again and go here.......
Go to engine mechanical AAH / AFC
Click - "17 Engine-lubrication".
Click - "Component layout, engine code AAH from 8.94, engine code AFC"
Page 17-14 shows the oil pressure sensor mounted on the cylinder head on some models and page 17-15 shows the oil pressure sensor at the oil pump.

Temp sensor is located in the oil pump housing just behind the crank pulley
The pressure switch is over sort of behind the A/C compressor pulley.
You might be able to finesse the temp sensor out if you had a stubby wrench.
Use a mechanic's mirror and a flashlight and you'll located it. Facing the engine, the temp sensor is about in the 4 o'clock position and in behind the pulley.
