So...Ignition Coil most likely cause of no-spark on 12v?

Default So...Ignition Coil most likely cause of no-spark on 12v?
I know they go bad. Any way to test? MiL's car died on Christmas.

Default It happens, but it's probably not the number one cause of no spark
A defective Hall effect sensor (G40) or engine speed sensor (G28, I think) is more likely. Check trouble codes.

Primary and secondary resistance of coils is easily measured. Got a Bentley?

Well, the timing belt broke, so no spark trigger. Sad, the replacement TB lasted only 70k.

BTW- how do you dump codes on your car? 4-prong is teh suxor.

Default Soft codes can be cleared by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes
Hard codes have to be cleared with a VAG-com or VW scan tool.
