Default Make sure it's not something else before throwing money at a new propshaft

Check for excessive play:

control arms
drive axles
tie rod ends
propellor shaft

Also: rotate your wheels and see if there's any change.

Default Well, I haven't done anything and it seems to be gone now.

I KNOW it will come back, but when is another story. Control arms are good and so are tie rod ends. Don't think it is the tires because it comes and goes and it is worse at low speeds. If it were the tires I would think it would get worse at high speeds.

I will check drive axels and prop shaft.

Thanks mori.

Default newer tranny mounts, original motor mounts

but no purple goo coming from them - probably pretty worn though

Default It is a shudder like...

Somebody has mounted a big *** electric motor beneath the floor and has put a large weight 6 inches from the rotating axis. As I accelerate so does the speed of the electric motor causing a shudder that increases with my speed.

As I go faster and faster the frequency increases, and the amplitude of the vibrations go down. When I am the highway I can barely notice it, but it is there because when it is happening I get way more annoying rattles in my car.

Make sense?

Default are your wheels torqued down properly?

and you said everything else is balanced wheel wise, right?

i mean, sounds just like an out of balance wheel honestly, but without seeing/feeling it in person, it's kinda hard to figure out. sorry i can't be more help.

Default I have definately felt out of balance wheels before.

This is 10x the vibration.

Plus, sometimes it is there and others it is not. It seems to come and go as it pleases.

When this happened 2 years ago they mentioned drive shaft u-joints looked worn, I am just looking for different options.

Thanks for your help though. I'll probably take it in to another shop (one that I have recently found that I really trust) and see what they say.

Default only other thing I can think of... along the lines of hte driveshaft...

is the center bearing on the driveshaft (holds the u-joint). I haven't heard of one going on these cars but the older 4ks, etc had this problem...

might be worth checking out.

Oh, does the vibration go away if you put the clutch in? obviously it's speed related, but is it RPM related?
