Break-in period on my new short block?
Hey guys, I just installed a new short block in my S4 and was wondering what the typical break-in period is? I have been taking my time with the break in (with some help from my local shop) and have about 350 miles on it so far...staying below 4500 rpms and always fluctuating rpms. My other questions is, do you think it would be OK to take it on an 800 mile road trip this weekend, if I have 500 miles on the engine? TIA, I just want to take proper care of my baby!

WHile I'm no expert, I'd suggest following the normal 1K break in on the engine. Which I believe would be ok as you are going up to montana. Have you checked with Trevor/Max on their suggestions?

keep breaking in the engine just like you have, keep the boost low, and rpm's down. at the 500 mile mark change the oil, the reason for this is that any fine metal shavings, lint or anything like that still in the engine will be flushed by the oil to the oil pan at which you want to get that out. after that, drive like you have for another 500 miles or so then you can slowly start getting back into it. as far as the road trip, you could do it easily, just don't set the cruise until after the 1000 mile mark, and try to keep the rpm fluckuating
