I smell oil up front.
I have been noticing an oil odor after shutting off my 2002 a6 with 46k miles. any ideas? i think i can see a little bit of oil under the engine.

most likely quick audi has it right, VERY common with C5A6's i smell it once a day usually.
STFA it and find everyone and their mom has this issue who has a c5a6 its residual oil burning but it wont ever harm you...but run a diagnostic by a audi tech just to be sure....

Worst case like the other guys said, cam seals and more, but it could also be the cam cap at the back of the block, it could leak a drop here and there but it falls right onto the manifold/downpipe and that is where you get your smell.
