Default 2002 A4 Timing Belt install - Timing Question

Hey everyone, looking for some help with the timing of my 2002 A4 3.0. I'm installing a new timing belt and water pump and managed to move the crank and cams out of place after the timing belt was off...I'm looking to confirm that in order to get things back in place, I need to make sure that the #1 Piston is at TDC and the cam lock tool is locked in place. I've read that the cam lock tool can only be installed with the cams in a certain position and I believe that is correct now that I have it installed properly. So basically, no matter what I've done with getting everything out of place, I should be able to put #1 at TDC and install the cam lock tool correctly and I should be all set...is this correct? Thanks for the help!

Just lock down each cam. Put the engine so the balencer mark is pointing right at the mark on the timing cover. its NOT #1 TDC on audi V6 engines, its #3 TDC. Do not try and go by sticking a screwdriver in the hole to see top dead. Use the mark on the balencer. Put the belt in and put the lower cover and balencer on and line it up, and then install the rest of the belt it you have to.

Great information, thanks for the details...got the parts installed and belt on and engine turns over without any interference. Haven't finished yet but I'm confident that it is assembled and timed correctly.
