Default Excessive crankcase pressure?

I just finished timing due to an oil leak from front of the engine. When I removed the timing gear from the crankshaft the main seal was just sitting on the shaft. Is there any way this could not be related to spider hose issue? Could it even possibly be just due to being old? Just got it back together and sure as hell don't want to have to take it apart again due to blowing a damn crank seal if something is clogged. Gotta pull the spider hose tomorrow to examine it. Thanks in advance
