1992 4.2 AHB strange sounds
I have a 92 Audi V8 4.2 Automatic with about 200 000 miles on it. I believe the engine has been changed in Germany in the late 90's, and the transmission has done just over 60 000 miles.
The engine got a new t-belt this spring, including everything, and the pan on the transmission was dropped to change the filter, clean the pan and change the oil. The old oil still had the right color.
Now... as fall and winter started here in Norway, the car startet to get a few strange noises.
Noise A: Appears at about 2300-3000 rpm, sounds like hydraulic lifters without oil. Goes away over 3000 rpm. Only when increasing rpm. Not very loud, not something the passenger would think of, but bad enough for the owner.
Noise B: Sounds like a "hummmmmm". Almost like the vacuum pump for the central locking is running, but it isn't. Appears when the car has been running for at least 20-25 minutes, so it has to get varm. Appears at about 1100-1200 up to about 1800-1900 rpms. Then it dissappears. I've tried locking the car in the various forward gears, but the sound is still there.
Any ideas...?
