Default low rpm engine vibration

Just picked up an 04 S4. It has 50K miles on it. It seems to have some low frequency vibration up to about 3000 rpm where it smooths out. The motor has plenty of power, no misfiring, no valve noise, runs smoothly at higher rpm. I can feel the vibration while engaging the clutch and it feels like chatter but its still there regardless of whether the clutch is engaged or disengaged. It also sounds a bit like there's a hole in a downpipe or somewhere before the cats. I'm new to this motor and it may just be that I'm not used to it. Any ideas how to diagnose? If the flywheel was slightly out of balance what would it sound/feel like?

I've had two engines. Normal. The worst is around 2800 RPM right?
