Twilight Zone nightmare
Any suggestions on how to handle this situation would be appreciated; 2001 A6 4.2, 85k miles in good well maintained cond. Son got into minor accident(rt frt fender damage)and car was driven short distance back home(less than 1/2 block). It was parked, insurance company called and towed to a shop recommended by ins. co. Estimated completion time=2 weeks, cost=$1800. Two weeks later autobody shop calls and says there are serious mechanical problems with car but doesnt specify except to say there was no coolant in car when they started it and when they added some it ran out of back of engine. A month later adjuster called to say engine was seized and he needed more info from us to examine claim. We provided him with all relevant info including irrefutable evidence that the car had been driven daily with no signs of engine problems right up until the accident. Adjuster wanted second opinion from an Audi dealer and dealer determined there was "white smoke coming from exhaust" and repair ticket+$17k!The claim has been denied on grounds that there is nothing linking engine damage to accident.Bottom line is were stuck with this now and I really feel a mistake was made by autobody shop and its being covered up and insurance company nor body shop are accepting responsibility.Anyone ever had anything like this happen to them? Thanks in advance.
