Default Homelink Not Recognized

I have only had my 2018 Allroad for a month (My fifth and favourite Audi so far). I had no issues linking my homelink to my garage door.

Today I went out and tried closing my garage door and the homelink buttons did not light up like normal. So I checked the settings and the MMI is telling me that is is not recognizing the garage door opener at all.

I have rebooted the MMI, but still the homelink is still not recognized. I am now wondering if I might not have a slightly bigger problem as the car is not recognizing the Key and the interior lights are not working.

You might want to pile on to this thread. https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a4-b9-platform-discussion-212/homelink-problem-dealer-cant-help-2911897/

Homelink in the B9's is a gong-show. Mine works for a few days, then quits and I have to reprogram it. Never have I had an issue with three previous homelink enabled cars (and the same opener)

Quick update - so after only 1500km, the homelink control unit needs replacing - LOL

Yep.. I have to call the dealer, as mine keeps having the same issue. Wonder if it's only Canadian cars?

I've had similar issues with our allroad (we live in the GTA - so another Canadian datapoint). It seems to largely work for a while, then not - especially when returning home. It always opens the door when the car is in the garage, usually closes after backing out (but not always) and has real problems opening the door from the outside. As others have stated, Homelink has worked fine with other cars - including my 2008 A4 Avant which has worked flawlessly with both garage doors for over 10 years.
It did work a little better for a while when I replaced the Cree LED bulbs in my opener. The older Cree bulbs exhibit bad EMI, but after a few days of successful openings, it reverted back to its random behaviour.

That has all the symptoms of a radio range problem--you need to get a stronger signal into the opener. I added a few feet of wire to the antenna of my ancient opener and even let some of it dangle outside of the garage door. Did wonders for the operating range.

I'll give that a try on the weekend. Is it a simple matter of splicing a wire to the existing antenna or connecting a new wire to a lead off the opener?

I did nothing fancy because I was not sure it would help. I just stripped the insulation from the end of the existing antenna and twisted the stripped end of another piece of wire to it. In theory the total should be an odd number of quarter-wavelengths long, but since a quarter-wave at those frequencies is less than 12" random lengths seem to work as well.
