Default 1.8 tear down some more...band width intensive

Well I took apart the head somewhat to see what I could see... More chewed up plastic, and as some had guessed, looks like the camshaft tensioner failed. There was tons of plastic on that side of the head and it looks like the camshaft tensioner is supposed to sit on some piece of plastic that was only partially there. So my question, does anyone have a good picture of what the tensioner is supposed to look like?
But, it looks like I got a steal...$200 engine and the only thing wrong was the camshaft tensioner failed and chewed some plastic up. Time to play clean up and then modify time

Rob, pardon the ignorance, Is the carbon build up on the valves common or part of the engine failure? Did u say it was a ATW motor?

If you were preparing for Stage 3, can you do anything other than lower compression?

Default Why cant he lower the compression? I lowerd mine to 8:1 and others have

lowered to 8.5:1 without any problems. Lowering the compression allows the user to run more timing with pump gas without getting knock or ping. Even my stock audi chip was able to hold 12 deg of adv timing on 91 octane. My K04 chip that was tuned to run under 10 deg of timing with a fmic on 91 octane was able to hold up to 15 deg on the same fuel.
