115k on my stock 1.8T - going to chip it...
Going with APR 1 bar chip. STA and here's what I've gathered:
- Upgrade the DV. Get the 710N (this is the DV from the 225hp TT?). Cheaper than APR R1 option. Help me out here, what's the deal with upgrading the DV? Stock can't handle the boost? Sometimes an overboost situation is allowed and turbos die?
- Get a boost gauge. Any tips on on a low budget route? I still have a generic under-dash mount from when I put gauges in my truck, plan to use that until I get a better setup.
- Fix all vacuum leaks & boost leaks. I have none of the stock vac hoses left, all been replaced (with something other than Audi's material).
Anything else you'd say about this many miles on the engine?
Thanks!

sounds good to me. There is an APR R1 is the classifieds. talk him down in price.
but, 710N is plenty, and, yes, it's from the 225 TT. The stock BPV usually won't hold 15 psi/1 bar.

Compression test?
although the motor should handle stock turbo/chip alright, even with subpar compression, before you pay up for a chip it may make you figure that $500 into something else (rods & rings rebuild so you can run a big turbo)

for a boost gauge, I suggest
Getting a cheap mechanical boost gauge. Then dremel one of you vents (when it is out of the car) so that it fits in and looks just like the $200+ apr kit.
I got the Autometer 2601 from egauges.com

Thanks guys, I think that...
I will do that compression check as a look see (my last OA showed very good wear in the engine - not much blowby - but doesn't hurt to find out earlier with a real comp test rather than later).
The APR R1 would be nice, I guess.. but the 710N much cheaper from what I understand.
I know once I open the mods can o' worms it's going to be a long road ahead, but I'll try and contain it (I'm actually doing some mods as I decided to keep my car a few more years and then consider a B7 or B8...)
Thanks again!

and I've popped several 710N and 710A valves. 1 N with X chip, and several with stage 3.
the Bailey only worked perfectly on day 1 and fell off from there as the spring got weaker, then would stick. new one under warranty, repeat. finally, the only thing that has worked for me has been the APR R1 and it's very smooth on/off throttle like a 710N.
