Default 15 months off warranty = $2000 in repairs

Latest is a bad A/C compressor which is going to set me back over $900. Had a bad window motor and timing belt tensioner last summer. All of this follows numerous repairs under warranty, including dashboard replacement, oxygen sensor, broken cruise control, bad power steering pump and more.

Called AoA to ask for relief on this latest. They said no way and gave me a reference number for my complaint. This is my last Audi. Love the car, but it's not worth it.

Sorry to be leaving the fraternity. I was thinking about an A6 2.7T, but there's no way my mind can let me do that to myself.

Default Might as well get a civic

Because expensive cars have expensive repairs. You have an early model I assume (I have an April delivered 1996). It happens with ALL cars. Some more so than others.

Perhaps it is because your car is an early build 1996. Maybe not. But it isn't because it is an Audi. Their prices are on par/slightly higher than BMW, M-B, etc. Show me a cheap luxury car to run/operate after the warranty expires.

Default I think that I have to disagree...

Just because a car is a luxury car doesn't mean that more frequent repairs are OK. There's frequency of repairs and there's cost of repairs - sounds like both were high for this guy and that's not acceptable. Voting with your feet (walk away from an Audi next time) will drive the overall quality/reliability of any car up. I owned a Honda previously and had lots of problems with it - that's why I didn't consider a Honda/Acura again.

Default sh*t happens. I'm sorry you had so many problems with your A4....

The only advice I have is, don't kid yourself by thinking the same things can't happen on a Lexus, Honda, or whatever make that is touted to be highly reliable.

I've got 54K on my '97 1.8T and am very happy with it. I haven't had to pay for a major post warranty service yet, but I know it will be expensive and I knew it would be when I made my purchase. On the bright side, at least I didn't have to pay a dime for the first 50K.

Good luck on your next car.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=161"</a><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/a4registrydl.jpg" BORDER=0></a>

Default Living in Houston, part of owning a car is almost counting on a new AC compressor every 5 years...

...if you drive the car a lot. Sometimes you'll get lucky and get more than that. I imagine that newer cars are getting better.
