Default Are 2.7T motors really that bad? Saw a negative comment on this forum one day and just want to check

before asking on the A6 side. A6 is a possibility in the future (for my wife). So, is 2.7T really so troublesome that I better get a 2.8? And, what are the major problems with it?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Default Yes, too frequent turbo failure.

However, it's a good excuse to upgrade the turbos to something more reliable.

The turbos have a habit of failing.

Is this a maintenance/driving style kinda problem or just poor engineering? Same K03 as ours?

Default 2.8 = depressingly slow, 2.7T= fun and cool but high maint costs....

but if u uphrade i think tis more reliable but thats huge money i think...btu also huge hp. just go for the 4.2 V8 lol, kinda pricey but reliable, powerfull, and has awesome big fender flares.

Default turbo failure on S4/B5 2.7 may not apply to an A6.....

there is more room in the A6 so the turbo is less likely to fail. the K03's on the 1.8T's don't have the same problem as the 2.7T

Default If the 2.8 is depressingly slow, what does that make a 1.8t?

Since, in stock form, the 2.8 is faster than the 1.8t. And when both chipped, they are still about the same.
