2000 VW GTI GLX VR6 vs A4 2.8 Quattro
I need a fun car to drive that's comfortable.
(I'm currently driving a Jeep Wrangler that's fun, but slow and uncomfortable, but the top comes off.)
Other than being incredibly cool, is the A4 worth the extra $$?
I'd buy the A3/S3 in a second if they sold them in the states.
Thanks. I think I'll be getting the A4, but I'm still trying to justify the extra $12,000 spend. And I don't generally like cars with four-doors!

Both are great cars...more...
They are great enthusiast driver cars. The A4 build quality is superior, and the quattro drivetrain is well worth the cost. You can't go wrong with either, but I would seriously consider the 1.8T engine in either car if you like a sporting drive.

Agree. I still have my 91 GLI 16V as well as a 97 2.8QMS. The GLI illicits more spirited driving. You want to toss it around. This is a nine year old car that is still solid and rustless. I think build quality is on a par with Audi. Finish quality is higher on the Audi. It will be interesting to see if my A4 is as solid after 9 years. Bet it is.

Re: 2000 VW GTI GLX VR6 vs A4 2.8 Quattro
If anyone's interested, I pick up my Black/Onyx-Silver Alcantara S4 tomorrow night.
I decided that I wanted a car that I wouldn't have to mod, that would scream, that I could lease, that had sport seats, and that I didn't have to pay for maintenance on. The S4 fit the bill. My Valentine1 is on order.
I look forward to writing about my experiences with it here.
