Default 215/60/16 snows rub at left rear. Can I drive it until it wears down?

Okay, I asked before about fitment of 215/60/16 Alpin snows. Most of you said it would rub. It clears the front and right rear (no rubbing). But, oddly, it rubs on the upper arm on the left rear. Makes a "roaring" sound. I really don't want to have to go out and buy new snow tires (these were given to me). Can I drive on these until that part of the tire wears down? Possible risks/damage? I don't have a place in my town that can shave tires.

Default i'd look for suspension problems and not run it while rubbing.

just before i modded my suspension my right front and left rear were low. bad shocks was the problem.

Default Free things aren't always the best choice.

So even though the tires were free, they are the wrong size. You're experiencing some rubbing due to this.

You will need to purchase spacers to run on the wheels, and you'll potentially need to buy longer lug bolts at the same time. Spacing the wheels out adds stress to the wheel bearings, so you'll be shortening the life of those already sensitive component. This may cost you more money.

Finally, you didn't mention the actual model, but ir they're the Pilot Alpine, they're not that good in the snow and ice anyway. If they're the Arctic Alpine, they probably pretty old and the rubber would be getting hard making them less effective as well.

I would suggest trying to sell the tires you got for cheap, and buy a new set of 205/55/16 Hankook iPike W409. Great tire for the price, and they'll fit.

Default hmm blow outs on the highway aren't fun... spacers may help make it rub in other areas

correct size tires ftw

Default those are a little big. "roaring" sounds scare me when I'm driving, especially in winter.

try spacers, but why run the wrong size tire even if it was free? How does your car drive with the bigger diameter tire?

Default Got some 1/4" spacers and longer bolts. No longer rubs. I'll try to

go this set up this year (I'll only put about 1500 miles on them this winter) and go with a more correct set up next winter. It drives pretty smooth, but they do look a bit weird after going from 235/40/18's. The spacers were 1/4" which is about 7mm, is that correct? That was enough to not have them rub. Thanks for all the advice!
