6-speed tranny in B5 A4 swap? anyone done it?
I did the search, and came up with 100s of hits. Most of the posts were people talking about the 6-speed tranny in other cars (B5 S4, B6 A4, allroad, A6 2.7t, etc).
My car: 1999.5 A4 2.8 QMS.
If one were to attempt to put some 6-speed tranny (OEM Audi) into a B5 A4, which would be the best starting point? B5 S4 tranny? B6 A4 tranny 1.8t or 3.0? Something completely different?
What else would have to be swapped? Front & rear axles? Drive shaft? Brakes? Suspension?
I know it wouldn't be cheap.
I get the sense that it "just wouldn't be worth it," esp with a regular NA 30v engine..... but I'd like to hear opinions and guidance. Thanks.

narrow the search to just this forum, but to sum up....
from what i got from yippers (he has done it) and somone else, is that its not realy a direct bolt in, and yes it is very expensive. you dont have to chnage complete rear diff or the assy, you can just install the 4.10 ring in pinion in place of the 3.89 one. some parts have to me modified to make the tranny fit. try searching again in just the B5 forum.

dont need rear diff, axels or even the center section....IIRC...
yippers just put the gearing into the A4 rear diff.
I wonder if its possible to put the 4.10 gearing in the rear diff and the tranny front diff?, thatd be kinda pointless though...maybe not with a 2.8 tranny though?

wow that was quick answers...thanks...in other words, "probably not worth it"...
actually, my search *was limited to just the B5 A4 forum, and I still came up with lots of hits.....(632)
awhile back I noticed an AW-er with something like "1997 A4 2.0 T 6-speed" in his sig... that sounds like a lot of interesting mods... 6-speed and 2.0T in a B5.....
thanks
