A4 60K Maintenance -- Please Help
I would appreciate any advice from folks as I have a big decision to make and I am presently shocked at what I need to get done to my car. Sorry if this has been asked before (or perhaps in another thread).
I have a standard Audi A4, 2000 1.8T.
It has just over 60k miles on it so I brought it in for the 60k maintenance at Inskip in RI.
I have read some other threads about getting the water pump done when they are also doing the timing belts.
I am getting price quotes as follows:
$1000 for oil change, tire rotation, air/fuel filter, tranmission fluid, lubes, suspension and sparkplugs.
PLUS
$1200 for timing belt, water pump, serpentine belts, coolant
This equates to $2200. (I also happen to need 2 vacuum hoses replaced at $260 -- engine light was on).
Grand total of about $2460! I am blown away by this. I am now seriously considering just selling the car.
Is this reasonable? Is all of this absolutely necessary? Any help greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

What's wrong with your suspension? If you bought all the parts yourself...
and did the labor yourself... you're looking at like $500 for fluid/filters/timing belt stuff.
Let us know what you're doing with the suspension?

What kenny said.
If you can't at least shop around for a better price, then you only have yourself to blame for the rediculous expenses. I can understand not having the time/ability/tools to do the work yourself, but I can't understand not using the phone to get quotes from independent mechanics.

Thanks for replies.
I am not doing anyting with suspension, I believe as part of the 60k maintenance they just check it.
Car runs fine as it is now. I'll have to call around and get some quotes as I have no experience in doing any of the labor.
Still very surprised at the prices, even for this service.

Here's what you should get done (and cost)...
Timing Belt service (incl water pump, thermostat, and acc belts) ~ $1000
Oil Change, engine filter, pollen filter, plug change, rotate tires ~$150
Vac line replacement ~$50
The tranny fluids and fuel filter can wait until 90K.

Timing belt stuff sounds about average ($800-1400), rest of the stuff not too sure on.
But it does sound high to replace what you mentioned for $1000+ UNLESS they are replacing control arms which I DOUBT. Ask them to itemize the costs parts and labor for the non-TB/WP work to see what's going on there.

That's rediculous. The parts ALONE are like $350+ if you're including a waterpump in there.
One hour of labor? Find me a professional and experienced Audi mechanic that can do a TB/WP replacement in 1 hour, or is willing to only charge that much.
