a4 oxygen sensor
My 98 A4 with 40 k miles has an engine check light on. Dealer said it needs o2 sensor. After charging me $100 just to scan the computer PLUS $125 for 'tune up', they wanted $350. Sounds like highway robbery to me. Frankly, the car drives just fine. I am in no hurry to fix it. I've worked on car before; so I thought replacing an O2 sensor is easy to do.
Appreciate any help
1. where the heck are the heated sensor?
2. Any special tool?
3. After market or OEM part? Bosch about $70.
4. Will the engine check light goes off once the sensor is replaced or I need to pay the deal another $100?

There are 4 (I think) for the 2.8. Don't know for the 1.8T (probably 3).

Yes there is one (I saw one for sale on eBay last night)
3. After market or OEM part? Bosch about $70.
Yes there is a universal Bosch sensor you can use but it requires splicing into the wiring.
4. Will the engine check light goes off once the sensor is replaced or I need to pay the deal another $100?
It should go off when a little driving after the new ones are installed. If not use the <a href="http://www.steve-hall.com/cgi-bin/VAG-Locator.pl" target="_blank">VAG Tool Locator</a> to find someone with the tool to remove it for you (but if it hasn't cleared up it will come right back).

Actually I find it on the CAT and many E'tailer has it. The picture is exactly what it look like in my car for $90.00.

Now I need to get the tool and hope it's the right one to replace.
