A4 TDI. Turbo Problems
Hi,
i own a 1.9tdi 90hp '97 a4.recently the turbo seems to stop working after about 20 miles. restart the engine and it works for another 20. I presume it is the turbo as there is a substantial power loss in the mid range. very frustrating. Any help greatly Appreciated
Thanks,
Jack

Ok my car has done similar things its not the Turbo tho.Its more likely to be fuel restarting the c
ar is reseting the ecu which is going into limp mode.
what mine does is it revs out in top gear thanks to the tuning box.
its like the car runs out of fuel or air.
The turbo can't be switched on and off. It wont work then not work if it was knackered then it wouldn't work at all.
Have you cleaned your inlet manifold? and intercooler?
these clog up inside because of the EGR valve.
Exhaust gas recirculating. you end up with gungey sooty stuff in the inlet
You can use vagcom to change the egr settings so that it doesnt happen it will cost you 2 or 3 miles per gallon tho.
Hope this structureless rant helps
one last thing if you havent fitted a tuning box yet get one and a better air filter.
Don't buy a 4-600 quid tuning box tho buy a 1-200 quid one you'll get 30% more power and only loose fuel economy if you have a heavy right foot
