After 5.5 hours, the engine is nearly out. I expect another 3 before it's on the hoist.

Default After 5.5 hours, the engine is nearly out. I expect another 3 before it's on the hoist.

The car currently looks like this -

It would have been further along, but the fan clutch was a real pain. If anyone is keeping track, my 99.5 is NOT reverse threaded. I bent 3 allen wrenches trying to hold the pully. The final one got jammed so I went normal "lefty loosey" and it finally came loose.

the curley thing at the bottom used to be an allen wrench.

All that's left is to pull the turbo, pull the O2 sensors, remove the plug wires, remove both knock sensors, remove the crankshaft rpm sensor, pull the a/c compressor and un-mount some wire looms attached to the rear of the head. Oh yeah, and pull the starter. Then I should be able to get to the torque converter bolts.

Default Nice work. I'm pulling my motor in a couple of weeks, maybe sooner.

Why is the motor coming out?

I'm replacing the transmission, but I have a freshened motor as well.

Default I bought a tb failed motor on ebay. It's been re-ringed, honed and has all new bearings

oh yeah, and my transmission is shot. So, I figured I'd do both at one shot. It should be easier to get the tranny out through the front than from underneath.

Default been there... done that... got the t shirt

you will also need to disconnect the heater coolant lines at the back of the block

you dont need to pull the turbo. You can leave it on.

Did you leave them attached? I was debating separate or both on the hoist together.

heater lines are done. But, you did remind me that the coolant temp sensor is still in.
