Already searched, but want some clear cut answers about the 1.8T
I know that this engine is one of the best engines manufactured by audi, but what is the life span of this engine? I know there are many factors, but what about chipped? What's the most common problems with 1998, and 1999 builds? Ball joints etc? Last question, what's the average clutch lifespan? Thanks guys, thinking about selling my Tacoma and want some good input. (I know these cars aren't as reliable as toyota's so we don't need to discuss that...).

The highest mileage chipped cars I've heard of are pushing 200k
and it's not a matter of the engines dying, it's just that there aren't that many high mileage A4s yet. The engine itself is rock solid. You might be looking at a new turbo past 150k or so if you run the car hard, but even that is only a few hundred dollars. Control arms and tie rod ends are the real weak spots on these cars. Cluch lifespan depends on how you use it... I haven't heard of mellow drivers ever really having to replace their clutches from wear, but I've also seen several knuckleheads come on the forum and wonder why they're going through clutches every 5k miles.
