Except you don't have a turbo. That's why I told you you need to get VAG codes.

Default Right, no turbo

Aside from the service manual (that I really need to get), how do I get VAG codes? What I mean is, do you go about getting VAG codes differenty than getting p codes?

Default ? haha

Vag-Com software? Do I take it to a technician, dealership...or what? A technician gave me the p code, so I'm assuming that the same garage cannot give me the Vag code...right?

Default You connect a computer to the car... using a cable

software on the computer communicates with the modules in the car.

Do you mean for personal use, or where can you get your car scanned with Vag?

Default Ohhhh!

Okay, got it. After looking that the site, I understand it more. This Vag-Com software/interface is interesting, but if I don't feel like dropping hundreds of bucks buying it right now, are there any alternatives?

Default Not really. The advantage of buying their cable is you can have the latest software

Otherwise, OBDTool.com's device that I use it quite nice and works well if you have an old school serial port. $100 for the full version of VAG-COM.
