Be careful. I thought I was being smart replacing my alt. with a higher amp version...
What happened is I had to grind down a lip on the back of the
pulley (had to take it to a garage to do that), because the pulley
wouldn't allow the belt to align. Then I noticed my
alternaor/battery light comes on now at idle because the pulley
is for the 1.8T but the alt. is for the V6, and I'm guessing the
pulley size on the V6 is slightly smaller circumference to make
it spin faster, thus I get the battery light. I rev it to 1500 rpm
and the batt. light goes away and won't come back even when
it sits back down @ idle. It's because the volts sit right at 11.8
@ idle upon 1st startup that it triggers the light on my dash!
LOL! I thought I had a bad alt., etc, but after testing my
charging system, the only logical conclusion was wrong
pulley size
I won't do this again.
Be forewarned. Or if you do get the alt., get the pulley too!

Does it come with or without pulley? Chances are it comes without. And you may have to splice in
the power lines if the connections aren't the same.
I would ask someone like Carson about the P/N.
You'll notice the pulley has a hex key inside the bolt?
You need to turn the bolt with a wrench on an angle
and break it free while holding it with the hex key... a little tricky.
It's much easier if you do this while it's in the car. If you
can't break it free just take it out and to your nearest garage,
it's on kinda tight.

Also, I just used a good grade bolt/nut/washer from hardware store.
I saw no reason to use the audi-specific bolt here, I just made sure it was galvanized or stainless... I can't remember, but you get the idea.

Woohoo! got the alternator off...
Found the Electric fan install in the tech section and figured out how to get the fan off. Now I need to get a new alternator...
Any other good places to look for New/Refab alternators?
