Default Annoying metallic noise ...

I am taking my car in tomorrow to have the dealer solve an annoying metallic noise. Maybe someone here has had this before.

I have taken it twice to the dealer already and they have not found the problem yet. The first time they added a clip to the plastic protection panel! (Doh! I did tell them the noise was metallic) The second time they told me that they tightened the heat shield for the catalytic converter ... still not solved.

What basically happens is that after completely releasing the clutch in 1st and in 2nd (maybe also in higher gears, but it is not noticable), I hear a shaking metallic noise. Kind of like some thin metal vibrating or touching something. Also, but I am not sure it is related, but when I cold start the car in the morning, there is some kind of vibration that goes immediately away.

Mine is a 1,8T 2001

Any ideas?

Thanks for any input

There's a heat shield near the downpipe with very little clearance from the bolts, particularily if you have an aftermarket exhaust. Mine was making exactly the noise you are describing, most notably when downshifting into 2nd or 1st. They trimmed the bolts, and no more noise.

Hope this helps...
