Default Re: Well, I know 96-97 and 98.5 are completely different.

OK here's the breakdown:

Connectors for 96,97 and some early 98s are same.

Connectors for 98 to 99.5 are the same. Then 2000+ B5s use different connectors (actually its just the center connector for the trip computer that is different).

I don't know what year your car is but in short you cannot put in an S4 cluster unless you get a german one up to 99.5

Default So, if I read your post correctly....

(BTW...I have a 98.5 manual A4)

The 2000+ will fit and the connectors will fit with the exception of the trip computer wiring? Seeing as though I dont need the trip computer....will everything else work OK?? Hmm...guess I should start searching for a German cluster. Im not sure if Im cool with reading in Km per hour though. =(

Default Hence me saying...

"I also have to VAG it to change the RPM ratio's as well."

Maybe my wording was a bit off. You can re-code the cluster with VAG.

"driver info display"

Meaning the large display....or the small POS display that I currently have??

Default The part that craps out on the $900 clusters

and displays a garbled pixelated mess of information.

Default I'd look at....

8d0-919-036-dx $819.81 LIST, there is the matter of a $350 core charge... but how that is handled depends on your parts consultant.
