Change my 2007 A4/B7 oil every 5K (actually dealer does it) and what they are using is Castrol 5-40 Synthetic.

Castrol Syntec 5w40 at 5000 km interval..
Never had any problems, except gasket leaks

Bingo! That's the interval I used with Mobil 1.

On a '01 A4 1.8T Std Avant Sport Package- Have 126K now and the engine still purrss.

Filters well that is different. Get the best you can afford.

Alright I have always used a Mobil Filter and I'll push the oil a little longer and see what happens.

I run a Mobil 1 filter as well (M1-301). The way I see it, running a better oil than dino, and a better filter, but pushing the mileage longer between changes I'm getting at worst a similar quality oil for the last few thousand miles as I would running dino for a few thousand between changes. This way I save myself the inconvenience of changing oil as often. I also get to run a better quality oil fo (at worst) several thousand of the miles, making the percentage of miles driven with dino-quality oil fairly small. Doing this and changing the oil myself means I also save a little $$ vs. running dino for typical change intervals.
