Default Anyone run Mobil 1 Synthetic?

I have been running Mobil 1 Synthetic oil in 98 2.8Q for almost the entire summer. I have been changing at like 4k but I want to see when everyone else is changing. I have been using 5w-30 high mileage.

Last 5 years same stuff (summer and winter).
Change every 3k to 5k miles usually 4k.

The only reason to use Mobil 1 in a 2.8 is to extend the change intervals.
It's a waste of $$ if you're changing it at 4K.
I go 5k with high mileage dino in my 2.8.

Yes changing oil more often is a waste, there is no perceived benefit at all. Especially when you can't afford it.

That is sorta what I am asking I guess in this thread is how often should I change it? I usually run it to 5k and sometimes even then it looks like the oil is fairly clean.

Another thing I notice when using this oil is when I run the car at high RPM's for an extend period than normal or when I am trying to break the sound barrier I usually can smell the oil like it is burning but I usually check the oil every week and the level remains the same. Anyone else notice this when they use synthetic?

I think synthetic is the only thing you should be running regardless of the brand. As for your the burning smell, well I get it once and awhile. However, in my case, sometimes a drip will come off the valve cover and land on the turbo. So IMO I don't think the synthetic oil is the problem, just an aging car.

BTW, If you question spending 40 dollars every 3 months for oil, well you shouldn't own an Audi, A Kia or Hyundia is your better bet.

I don't have a problem spending that kind of money in oil because I love the car. My car travels 500 miles every week easy.

I've rune Mobil 1 for almost a decade and have changed at 10k. Some day I'm going to switch to Amsoil and push it to 15k between changes.
