Audi Steering problem
2014 A4 Quattro developed a steering problem which made the car not steer when you wanted and then pull to one side when you were going straight. I had the car to the Audi dealership service area as I saw other persons posting with the same problem. The service department stated that the lower mid steering rod that goes from the bottom of the steering wheel device to the cross drive axle needs to be replaced. I told them that the piece was metal, and what could go wrong with a metal piece of equipment. They stated that the metal weathers, and the U-joint is hard to turn and gets sticky. Their proce for the new steering arm and work was 800. I asked about any protection of this not happening again, since they were putting in a new metal arm, and they said No. So I said then this could happen again. They just stared at me with no response. So I took the car home and I had blue marine grease that I used for my sailboat when I had one, and put that all over the shaft and the Ujoint, and guess what. Steering is back to normal. Saved myself 800, and probably another 800 when it would have happened again the same way 5 years more down the line. AUDI should put a boot around that whole area so the elements do not affest the ujoint, or better hekp that area being affected. This is a serious Safety Hazard and should be reported and remedied by Audi ASAP..
